Olivia Grant - Retired Faculty & Staff - McDonogh School

Olivia Grant

After dedicating more than 40 years to teaching Middle School mathematics, Olivia Grant, a trailblazer, mentor, and confidant, is retiring. Ms. Grant joined the McDonogh community in 1982 and swiftly became a highly respected and cherished member of the Middle School Math Department. In addition to teaching, she assumed various roles over the years, including Math Department Chair, Math Interventionist, and MathCounts Coach, all while maintaining a steadfast presence for students by fostering a positive classroom environment and offering support whenever needed.

However, Ms. Grant is far more than a numbers cruncher who inspires enthusiasm for her subject. Always ready to lend an ear, a shoulder to cry on, or serve as a cheerleader, she has been a cornerstone in the Middle School as a mentor, close colleague, and dear friend. Known as a problem solver, she spearheaded a community project with the Center for Poverty Solutions in the mid-1990s to provide essential items for women and children in Owings Mills. She has also played leadership roles on the Diversity Committee, coached Math Olympiads, served as Director of Camp Red Eagle, and held positions as Director of After-School Programs and Assistant Director of Summer Programs.

A natural leader, Ms. Grant is recognized for sharing her thoughts, ideas, and convictions in meetings, private conversations, emails, and handwritten notes. Highly esteemed and valued by her colleagues, she was honored by one who established the Olivia D. Grant Scholarship in her name. Additionally, she is a recipient of the Howard C. “Dutch” Eyth Teaching Chair.

To sum it up, in her 42 years at McDonogh, Mrs. Grant has given 100 percent! We thank you and hope your retirement is equally divided between family, travel, and well-deserved relaxation.
