Athletic Leadership Academy Celebrates Second Year

The McDonogh Athletic Leadership Academy celebrated the end of its second year with a ceremony on Monday, April 15 in the 1873 Room. Of the 37 participants in the Emerging Leaders program and 22 in the Veteran Leaders program, 15 were recognized for going beyond the course requirements and completing the 2023-2024 leadership program with honors.

The banquet included comments from Emerging Leader Spencer Park ‘25, who spoke about the four C's in Leadership: commitment, confidence, composure, and character. He said, “The program and these 4 pillars of leadership have been nothing but transformative for me in my journey from a JV player, to a Varsity player, to a Varsity Captain…What I've loved the most about the leadership academy is the opportunity and education it gives to athletes who want to get more involved on their teams from a leadership position. I also appreciate the set of tools it provided us to become leaders off the field.”

Veteran Leader Annie Nemoy ‘25 spoke next, noting, “My time as a student-athlete in the McDonogh Leadership Academy has been invaluable. I have learned and continue to learn from fellow driven athletes about ways to best lead our teams on and off the court, field, track, or pool. I am grateful for the teachers, coaches, students, and sponsors that have built this program from the ground up, and I can't wait to hopefully be a part of the next chapter of it my senior year!”
