Seventh Grade Turns Concern Into Action

McDonogh’s seventh graders have exceeded expectations a number of times over the last few months. First, they set an ambitious goal of raising $6,000 in order to package 20,000 meals for the hungry in Haiti and Baltimore AND they planned to pack the meals in just two hours! Their motivation grew out of January’s Global Citizens Week when the students became determined to turn their concern into action. Throughout the spring, the class of 106 students not only raised funds, they raised awareness about the issues facing children both in Haiti and at home. In the end, they exceeded expectations by raising more than $10,000—enough to package 36,000 meals. On Monday, May 19, in cooperation with No Child Hungry, the students worked with speed and efficiency to package the nutritious meals in record time!
