It was a picture perfect day for the Class of 2016 Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 10. The morning began with a Baccalaureate Service in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre, during which Director of Aquatics Scott Ward addressed the graduates and their parents (read his speech here.) Shortly after, the seniors gathered in Tagart Memorial Chapel and then processed out the doors and down the hill to Childs Memorial Terrace for the Commencement Exercises. Among the highlights was the senior speech given by Michael Phillips, who challenged his classmates saying, “Look to make extraordinary change with the extraordinary education you have received.” He also reminded them, “If you ever lose your way, just use the compass that McDonogh gave us, the one of respect, kindness, honesty, and responsibility. I am certain you will find your way back to an amazing path.” Speeches were followed by the presentation of diplomas and Alumni Association membership cards. Following the ceremony, the graduates and their families enjoyed a reception by the John McDonogh monument.
