McDonogh’s varsity lacrosse coaches were two for two this week as the Baltimore Sun named both the girls Coach Chris Robinson and the boys Coach Andy Hilgartner All-Metro Coach of the Year.
Additionally, Jackson M. '16, was named All-Metro Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year. The senior attackman had 43 goals and 35 assists this season and equally important brought vital leadership to the team. According to the Sun, “Jackson, a four-year varsity player and captain this season on attack, was the starting point, with an uncanny ability to do whatever was needed at a given time to put the Eagles into position to win.”
In naming Coach Hilgartner the top coach, the Baltimore Sun said, ”The Eagles had plenty of quality pieces to start with, including what was regarded as the country's top defense, and had players step into bigger roles this season. Hilgartner quickly identified each player's role, and the Eagles played with confidence and as one.” The team finished with an 18-1 season record and took home the MIAA Championship title for the first time since 2005.
Coach Robinson was recognized by the Sun for leading his team to an undefeated season (22-0) that extended the girls’ national winning streak to 155 games and earned them their eighth straight IAAM Championship crown. The Sun said, “Coaching a seemingly unbeatable team posed several challenges this spring for McDonogh coach Chris Robinson, who not only had to mold a young team but also had to help the youngsters handle the pressure when every opponent had its date with the Eagles circled in red on the calendar.
The Sun also named Andie A. '17, Savannah B. '16, Sarah D. '16, Brindi G. '16, Maddie Jenner '18, and Catie M. '17 to the All-Metro Girls Lacrosse teams; and BJ F. '18, Arman M. '16, Barrett S. '16, and Brandon S. '17 to the All-Metro Boys Lacrosse teams.
