Jeff Sanborn’s AP US Government class took on the roles of plaintiffs, defendants, and the US Supreme Court in the case of State of Hawaii v. Trump on Wednesday, April 11. Students gave compelling arguments, in the case commonly known as the “travel ban,” as to whether the president has the authority to issue such a proclamation or if he has exceeded his authority. Judge Fred Smalkin ’64 and University of Baltimore Law School Professor Natalie Ram who heard the arguments, noted that this was one of the most difficult cases McDonogh’s Supreme Court has tackled.
