With young children gaining access to a dizzying array of games, videos, and other digital media, will they ever learn to read? The answer is "yes" if they are surrounded by adults who know how to help and if they are introduced to media designed to promote literacy instead of undermining it.
The McDonogh Parents Association invites parents of lower school-age children to Tap, Click, Read: Growing Readers in a World of Screens, a Parenting Education program featuring Lisa Guernsey, a world-renowned expert on the influence of new technologies on young children and early learning. The program will take place on Thursday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Klein Lyceum, Edward St. John Student Center, McDonogh School.
Guernsey is director of the Early Education Initiative and the Learning Technologies Project in the Education Policy Program at New America. She leads teams of writers and analysts to examine policies, tell stories, and generate ideas on new approaches to help disadvantaged students succeed. Guernsey is a former technology and education writer at the New York Times and The Chronicle of Higher Education and a contributing writer for numerous other national publications. All are welcome.
