Greatest Good McDonogh, the School's signature social impact program, held its first family service project at Roots Farm on Saturday, October 2. More than 75 lower schoolers and their families harvested in excess of 3,500 pounds of butternut squash, pumpkins, potatoes, green beans, and broccoli. The produce is being distributed to families-in-need through the Maryland Food Bank's Farm to Food Bank program.
After they completed their harvesting tasks, the young volunteers made their way through the corn maze and enjoyed farm fun with crafts and games. Faculty, staff, and student government leaders were on hand to help the event run smoothly and share information about food insecurity in Maryland. After they returned home with a pumpkin of their own, Lower School families were encouraged to log on to the Maryland Food Bank's interactive hunger map to learn more about food deserts.
Greatest Good McDonogh strives to help students find their purpose, grow their empathy, and realize their power and potential to do the greatest good in the world.
