Audiences who attended the performances of Once Upon a Mattress came for the lords and ladies, stayed for the talented student performers, and left with a sense of what can be learned from musical theatre! Once Upon a Mattress, a production of the McDonogh Theatre Department was presented March 31-April 1 in the Horn Theatre. The cast, crew, and musicians delighted audiences with jokes, brilliant songs, and iconic characters in the musical version of The Princess and the Pea.
Director Nina Pongratz had high praise for the actors, student designers and builders, and the orchestra as well as her creative counterparts Bill Marks, Nicholas Rego, Beth Rausch, and Scott Barton. In the program notes, she emphasized the variety of people and talent that made the show possible saying, "With each rehearsal, casting choice, design, and meeting, many collaborators helped weave this medieval tapestry you will see tonight."
