2004 Alumni Reunion Weekend Recap

On Friday morning, alumni guests visited Upper School classes, the Archives, and Pen Pal students in the third grade. Those Pen Pal visits were the highlight of the morning. Responding to the youngsters questions, alumni reflected on their student days, favorite teachers, activities, dining hall foods, and even mischievous acts.

After lunch with Headmaster Bo Dixon, reunion guests took a campus bus tour led by Head of Upper School Science Bob Seigman '64. Later in the day, alumni returned for the traditional memorial service in Tagart Chapel honoring deceased members of the 50th reunion class. Celebrants included Head of Religious Studies John Grega, Reverend Tom Bauer '54, and Reverend Harry Brunett '54.

A festive cocktail party followed, attracting alumni of all ages. The event prompted rave reviews from those in attendance.

Alums returned the next morning to the Ceres M. Horn Theatre, where the topic was McDonogh past and present. Shown on video, Col. Harry Hasslinger ’29 recited the poem The McDonogh Uniform by Eustace S. Glascock, Class of 1879. School archivist Frayda Salkin then treated guests to some McDonogh history. When she finished, she invited the audience to pose questions that would stump her. Those who succeeded received prizes. Next, guests watched a video showcasing McDonogh then and now. Headmaster Bo Dixon concluded the morning program with his impressive state-of-the-school address.

The family picnic was the hit of the weekend, with alums and their families having a great time reconnecting and posing for pictures. The reunion celebrations continued Saturday evening with class parties held at homes and restaurants throughout the Baltimore area. These gatherings attracted big crowds and generated lots of class spirit.

All McDonogh alumni are cordially invited back for all reunion weekends and other alumni events. The 2005 reunion events will take place April 29 and 30, 2005.
