2005 Orange and Black Weekend

School spirit was soaring high on campus November 11 and 12, as Eagles fans came together to celebrate Orange and Black Weekend. Festivities began Friday evening with the Orange and Black Bull Roast. Over 350 alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, and staff enjoyed a fun-filled evening of good food, music, and gambling. Parent Laurie Kelly was the winner of the spirit contest for displaying school colors with the most fervor. Mark Brandau and Dana Slater were runners up in the contest.

The celebration continued Saturday morning at the Alumni Memorial Field House, where 150 guests attended the Spirit Brunch to honor 2005 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees and Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award recipients. Hall of Fame inductees included Jack Soliman ’88, Spencer Rice ’91, Jennifer Riedy Harney ’91, Ken Cloude ’93, Sarah Hill ’93, Niamh Corcoran ’93, Debbie Johnson ’93, Sonia Chase ’94, Donta Evans ’94 and Lauren Mishner ’95. Alumni Association Distinguished Service Awards were presented to Kathie Corcoran, Larry Johnston, Henry Rosenberg, Jr.’48, and Rodney Stieff ’43. A special Honorary Alumni Award Presentation was made to Jack Luetkemeyer.

On Saturday afternoon, Eagles fans headed to John McDonogh Stadium for the much-anticipated, 90th annual McDonogh versus Gilman football game. A pre-game gathering took place under the Alumni Tent. Entertainment was provided for the kids by Kim Pursley Bourque ’88 and her company Pursley’s Party Productions. By kick-off time, the stadium was packed with Eagles fans clad in orange and black. Although McDonogh lost the football game, the Eagles’ orange and black spirit was not defeated!
