It Rains on Lower School Students

On Friday, September 16, Lower School students were all smiles as they soaked up the benefits of this year's reading challenge posed by Lower School Head Noreen Lidston. Lidston, clad in a dalmation costume, arrived on campus aboard a fire truck in honor of the Lower School students reading a combined total of 3,500 books (300 more than last year). At the sound of the siren, the truck's hoses and McDonogh's lawn sprinklers sprayed water up into the air as the children ran through the "raindrops" in their bathing suits during the very hot and sunny September afternoon. Lidston, a reading specialist before becoming an administrator, will do just about anything to get the children to read. In past years, Lidston has jumped into a pond, kissed a frog, milked a cow, been taped to a wall and spent a day on the dining hall roof much to the amusement of her students.
