Kudos to the Dining Hall Staff

Sixth graders just love pizza lunches. And they sure do appreciate the pizza makers and all those who serve them each day in Lamborn Hall. Yesterday, the students thanked the dining hall staff in a special assembly and treated them to a catered brunch.

The Lamborn Hall crew arrived in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre to a standing ovation from middle schoolers and faculty members. Teacher Margaret Bitz then invited each one on stage to receive certificates and booklets that the sixth graders made for them.

To create the personalized booklets, sixth graders interviewed and photographed each staff member, wrote poems in their honor, and made cards for them. They also contributed money for a brunch that the dining hall workers enjoyed after the dedication assembly.

As an extra thank-you, a faculty ensemble serenaded the staff with an amusing musical tribute called Lunchroom Lovin'.

On display in Finney Building is an another tribute. Students and teacher Jeanne Mulligan designed a clever bulletin board to showcase the dining hall staff and highlight their efforts.

For the last four years, sixth graders have honored unsung campus heroes during the annual Paul T. Spies '73 Community Service Project. The effort was created in memory of Paul T. Spies '73, who attended McDonogh for part of his eighth grade year before he became ill and died. He was an outstanding school citizen with great enthusiasm for making McDonogh a happy and constructive place.
