Mask Making Engages Fourth-Graders
Fourth-graders in Peter Twadell's class are preparing to transform themselves into Greek gods and goddesses. They're starting by making character masks using their own faces to model them.
After applying vaseline to keep the plaster gauze from sticking to their skin, students cover classmates' faces with layers of the same kind material that doctors use to cast broken limbs. The gods and goddesses will emerge after the fourth-graders paint and decorate their masks.
