The blazers started flying as soon as Head of Lower School Noreen Lidston proclaimed the 2005 Lower School Closing Ceremony concluded. As has become tradition, the new fifth graders tossed their jackets in the air to celebrate their official promotion to Middle School.
It was a festive morning for the 68 members of the Class of 2013. After the drum corps heralded their arrival at Childs Memorial Terrace, Mrs. Lidston honored them by sharing statistics about their grade.
Class members walked across the terrace to accept their certificates from Headmaster Bo Dixon. Then, they listened carefully as Mr. Dixon presented his annual milkshake challenge. He got them thinking about some questions that have no answers, like “Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?” He invited them to write to him over the summer about a question of their own.
After that, faculty offered the graduates farewell handshakes and hugs.
The entire Lower School took part in the celebration. The bell choir and the younger grades offered musical tributes. Students from every class displayed their handmade banners and exchanged grade-level banners with those advancing to higher grades.
