Students listened to Dr. Links describe his environmental health research, which involves how changes in the environment impact the health of groups of humans. As the population grows and becomes more advanced, Dr. Links explained, the more humans will affect the environment. And the more people disrupt the environment, the greater the negative effect on human health. The key to making decisions in the environmental health field is risk assessment: If the risk is great, the response must be extensive.
Dr. Links concluded by saying that there are opportunities for McDonogh students to intern at the School of Public Health or to take part in some of the ongoing studies that are examining the quality of the environment.
