Rock Shop Concert "Well" Worth It

A lively crowd of students, parents, and teachers packed the dining hall on February 1 for the third annual Well, Well, Well Concert. The event, which featured performances by six Middle School Rock Shop bands and a silent auction, raised $2,500 for an elementary school in rural Kenya. The money will be used to build a water well and water line connection.

Middle School teacher Cathy Schorreck and the eighth grade Leadership Group were MC's for the show. They also served a smorgasborg of sweets and snacks.

The successful silent auction of donated gifts was organized by Jeanne Weiner, Posey Valis, and Carmen Sund.

This is not a philanthropic endeavor that ends by putting a check in the mail. As in previous years, Middle School students will soon begin corresponding with students at The Killaatu School in Kenya through a pen pal program. "It is always an eye-opener for our students to learn that many African children must walk for hours each day to procure the day's supply of water, and that their time in school is limited because of this," commented social studies teacher and Rock Shop advisor Steve Martel.
