The entire Middle School gathered in Ceres M. Horn Theatre on Friday, May 16, to hear the 11 finalists in the annual seventh and eighth grade oratory program.
The students spent much of the spring writing their own two to four minute orations. Seventh graders wrote personal or persuasive essays on topics from any of their courses or other experiences that inspired them. Eighth graders wrote persuasive essays on current events. Each student was evaluated on their quality of writing and their poise and expression while speaking.
Andrea B. '13 and Laura O. '12 were masters of ceremonies as the eleven finalists delivered a variety of messages on topics such as global warming, genocide in Darfur, and social bullying.
This year's finalists included:
Seventh graders: Rachael K., Jamie R., Emily R., Alec C., and Derek D.
Eighth graders: Vibav M., Sara M., Willie P., and Emmy W.
