Students, Mr. Grega Drive Home the Point

Every 33 minutes, someone dies in an auto accident as a result of drunk driving. To drive home the point to Upper School students, members of McDonogh's SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) chapter, created a very convincing demonstration for their classmates.

The Grim Reaper, portrayed by John Grega, head of the religious studies department, appeared in various classrooms every 33 minutes and called out a student’s name. The student returned to the class a few minutes later with a painted white face and instructions not to talk the remainder of the school day.

“It is a more visual way to get our message across,” explained Martina D.'06, SADD president and coordinator of the daylong effort. “Today’s event is just one of many planned for the week. Other activities include a poster contest and Kweisi Mfume as guest speaker.”
