Surprises at Athletic Awards Night

Special, surprise honors went to four adults. Longtime riding teacher Mimi Brandau received an award for managing morning-to-night responsibilities at the horse barn. Diane Young, who began the girls' varsity tennis program and guided her teams to an unprecedented number of championships, was honored on the occasion of her retirement as coach. Parents Artie and Gibby Bell accepted thanks and a varsity letter for their exceptional support of the girls' soccer and lacrosse programs.

Nine seniors received Golden Eagle awards for athletic participation in every season of their Upper School careers. Nineteen received commendations for earning four varsity letters in the same sport, and eight received awards for eight varsity letters in two sports.

Head coaches from all 26 varsity sports presented honors to students. Coaches gave awards to those they judged the best role models for each team. Eagle awards, voted on by the players, were given to those who made the greatest contribution to their teams.
