Third graders took the stage of the Ceres M. Horn Theatre as patriots, athletes, authors, doctors, artists, and many others for American Biography Day on Wednesday, March 1. The event was the culmination of a social studies unit in which each student researched a famous American, and on Biography Day they became that person. Dressed for the part, each third grader told the audience a little bit about themselves. With the American flag displayed behind them, the students also proudly sang “America,” “The Star Spangled Banner,” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”
Some of this year’s famous Americans included Lance Armstrong, Rosa Parks, Francis Scott Key, Annie Oakley, and none other than our very own headmaster, Bo Dixon. There was laughter in the audience as Mr. Dixon’s impersonator stood on his tip- toes and announced that he had grown a full inch as a result of his double knee-replacement surgery!
Third graders joined their families and friends for refreshments in the lobby of Horn Theatre following the program. It was a “star spangled” event, and a “grand old” time was definitely had by all.
