Third-Graders Star in Tres Gatitos

Mrs. Foard attributes the students' impressive showing to the basic knowledge of Spanish they have been building for the past two and three years. Most began studying Spanish in pre-first or first grade, when foreign languages are introduced at McDonogh.

To prepare for the play, the third-graders practiced and learned their lines during class time, and they also made kitten and cat masks to wear as costumes. Added Mrs. Foard, "The students usually are nervous about being able to learn their lines in a foreign language; they don't think that they will be able to do it. However, the children are usually able to learn their lines easily with a little practice. . .It is extremely rewarding to the developing hispanohablantes (Spanish speakers) to give a great presentation to the parents, students, and teachers who come to see them perform."
