The Annual Cardboard Boat Race on McDonogh's Duck Pond will take place Thursday, June 4. The Parade of Boats will depart from behind the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Athletic Center at 3:15 p.m. and the first race will begin at approximately 3:45 p.m. All are welcome.
Upper School students will race across McDonogh's Duck Pond in colorful, life-size boats that they've constructed from cardboard for the school's Annual Cardboard Boat Race. Each boat has a theme and this year's entries include Sesame Street, USA, Star Wars, Toga Party, Orioles, and Hannah Montana, to name a few.
For the Upper School students who have spent the last three weeks constructing their vessels, it is a test of how well they've combined the principles of physics and engineering with artistry. Each crew of six to nine students receives the same quantity of materials: nine sheets of industrial grade cardboard, glue, tape, and paint. Aside from being a lot of fun, it is a great exercise in teamwork.
We hope you can still join us for this celebration of the end of the school year!
