As avid golfers often say, even a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day elsewhere. The 34th annual McDonogh Golf Classic on October 13 was a great day. A record 120 participants enjoyed the well-kept course at Chestnur Ridge Country Club.
Despite brisk winds, golfers lucked out weather-wise with a sunny, mild day--the best of the week in Baltimore. Foursomes hit the tees at 1 p.m. after enjoying lunch on the clubhouse terrace. Golfers liked the comfortable pace of the modified Florida scramble format.
The winning foursome included Greg Mix, Rusty Ward '87, Ted Peddy '87, and Stewart Ridgley. A point behind were Jack Mitchell '89, Scott Sanders, Todd Pauliny, and Casey Clark '88. And a point behind them were Dave Wells, Shane Abernathy, Karl Lehmann '84, and Jeff Irrgang '83.
Four tied for closest-to-the-pin honors: Jim Dudley, Larry Timian, Doug Silber '76, and Brian Gracie. Those with the longest drivers were Jim Bannantine, Krista Aarsand Bedford '79, and Ann Dixon.
Most stayed around for the 19th hole: cocktails, dinner, and an auction, called by Brad Dudley '79. His spirited delivery inspired bidders. Items included a fabulous vacation at Pinehurst as well as footballs signed by Matt Stover, and a football helmet and jersey signed by Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Ray Lewis.
The Alumni Association extends its thanks to all participants and sponsors. Thanks also go to the staff of Chestnut Ridge Country Club for their gracious hospitality.
