Crush the turtle, in residence in Rick Thompson's science room since October 8, is live on Turtle Cam. Check him out any time of day or night.
For the third year, Mr. Thompson and his Turtle Team are raising a diamondback terrapin, known scientifically as Malaclemys Terrapin. McDonogh is part of a terrapin research project involving 29 other area schools. The Turtle Team's goal is to raise the Crush until the end of the school year, when he will be released at Poplar Island on the Chesapeake Bay.
Crush was hatched on Poplar Island on September 16, 2009. When he arrived at McDonogh, he weighed 8.5 grams and his shell was 3.3 centimeters long.
