CMP: Progress, Thanks to Dry Weather

The rain finally went away.

During more than a week of dry weather, construction crews were able to accomplish a great deal. Importantly, they were able to get the field 7 parking lot ready for use for Saturday's homecoming events. Road access to that parking lot won't be paved until Thanksgiving, however.

  • The area around the bus shop was paved.
  • Underground infrastructure may be extended this week into what will become the Campus Green. We are looking for ways to proceed without disrupting our limited, existing parking. This work will include completion of the waterline for the fire hydrants between the Field House and Memorial Court.
  • Also this week, the retaining wall at the edge of the baseball field will be poured. This wall is needed to support the road to the field 7 parking lot.
  • Slow progress continues on the Woods/McDonogh road intersection, including design work and approvals for aspects of the project. Temporary lane markings will be painted on the road.
  • Footings and steel will be installed for the turf field scoreboard. The scoreboard will be erected soon after. It will not be operational until the electrical work--to be done in conjunction with the lighting in the field 7 parking lot--is complete.
  • Architect Paul Gorman and builder Ben Esh, whose work on campus includes the Eagles Nest indoor riding area, have been chosen to construct the metal-frame power plant building. The façade will be similar to the Eagles Nest, faux stone to grade. Eventually, the bus shop and maintenance building will receive a similar make-over.
