Irene: Minimal Damage
The McDonogh campus is closed today for clean-up after tropical storm Irene swept through on Saturday and Sunday. The campus escaped serious damage. Several trees came down, along with lots of limbs.
After a 36-hour outage, electricity was restored late yesterday. Major electrical systems were powered-down in advance to prevent damage from surges.
There was minor flooding in buildings. With electricity off, basement sump pumps did not operate. The worst overflow was in the basement of Lamborn Hall. Yes, Lamborn Hall has a basement.
School operations will resume tomorrow.
