McDonogh hosted the annual Battle of the Books challenge for middle schoolers from seven independent schools in a Jeopardy-style competition on Tuesday, May 15.
McDonogh's teams were very successful. The fifth grade team, comprised of Michael A., Luke D., Kami H., and James L. took first place, competing against three other schools. The sixth grade team of Alexis H., Lauren S., Jessica T., and Alexander Z. scored an impressive 112 points, taking home the first place prize. The seventh grade team of Kasey G., Mohit P., Steven S., and John T. came in fourth out of seven teams. Accumulating 128 points, the highest score in the competition, the eighth grade team of Sam A., Jack D., Preston R., and Tanner S. also took first place.
The program aims to increase students’ motivation to read, boost their comprehension, and broaden their choice of reading material. After reading a variety of books selected by the independent school librarians, battlers compete in teams to answer questions formatted “In which book … .” Teams accumulate points for naming the book title and author. Excitement builds as the battle heats up.
Congratulations to all participants.
