In full McDonogh regalia, sophomore Ryan S. crossed the finish line of the 2012 Walt Disney World Half Marathon with a time of 1:24:47 on Saturday, January 8 in Orlando, Florida. Ryan was the 104th runner to get a high-five from Mickey Mouse at the end of the race, which included approximately 27,000 runners.
Ryan chose to run in the Disney Half Marathon because it has a great atmosphere, including the course, spectators, and plenty of sights and characters to see along the way. “I love running as a sport. But, I think running has become a form of meditation for me. I'm calm when I run long distances and rather peaceful,” says Ryan. “Regardless of my final time, I'm always happy with the end result of a run.”
Jeff Sanborn, McDonogh’s track and field coach, describes Ryan as someone who has committed himself to running as both a sport and a way of life. “Ryan has become a varsity runner in his sophomore year and will undoubtedly be a McDonogh leader in the distances,” says Jeff. “I am also hoping he will challenge the leaders of our league,” adds Jeff.
