The First Annual Vocal Music Residency Performance This Friday

What do McDonogh School and the Metropolitan Opera have in common? Well, as of this month, both can boast that they’ve had the pleasure of hearing Barbara Dever, a world-renowned mezzo-soprano, share her vocal gifts with their audiences. But while Dever has dazzled crowds at the Met since her debut in Aida in 1994, McDonogh has had the added pleasure of welcoming her as its first visiting master teacher in the newly established McDonogh Vocal Arts Residency.

The McDonogh Vocal Arts Residency is an annual, week-long musical immersion program led by a prominent figure in classical vocal music for students in Upper School. Founded by the family of Jamie Balter Levine ’11, the residency celebrates the arts program that allowed Jamie, and students like her, to cultivate a lifelong passion for vocal music. The residency has introduced McDonogh students to the artistry and craft of professional vocal music through master classes, seminars, and individual coaching over the course of a week this fall, and this Friday, it will culminate with a public concert in Tagart Chapel featuring the resident artist and the participating students.

The residency has been taking this week for students. All of the members of the McDonogh community are welcome to attend the culminating concert this Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
