Bytes, the Brain & Balance, CANCELED

Tonight's parenting education program "Bytes, the Brain & Balance" has been canceled. Information will be posted when a new date is scheduled.


Please join the Parenting Education Committee for “Bytes, the Brain & Balance: Examining Technology Use from Toddlers to Teens” on Tuesday, March 5 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Kelly Center (lower level of Elderkin Hall). This interactive panel discussion will include members of McDonogh's Brain Fellows, a group of faculty members from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools who study the relationship between learning and the brain as it relates to our children. Members of the Brain Fellows panel include: Dr. Marie Allee, Jack Hardcastle, Jennifer Smith, Kate Hailstone, Kim Mitchell, Kara Zimmerman, Nancy Love, Cathy Schorreck, and Rose Heggs.

Among the many topics the panel will examine are:

  • technology use at home and in McDonogh classrooms from K-12
  • the effects of gaming and screen time on brain development
  • changes in student learning as observed by teachers
  • parenting and teaching "digital natives" of the iGeneration
  • the relationship between attention issues and technology
  • raising well-balanced children from K-12 in the technological age
