Moving into The Naylor Building

Construction of The Naylor Building is in the homestretch, and last week many Upper School students helped their science, technology, engineering, and math teachers move into their new spaces. Support from the football team, the science department assistants, and a herculean effort from the summer work crew filled the rooms of The Naylor Building with books, equipment, and furniture. After a few key elements are completed this week, we anticipate receiving the official "Use and Occupancy Permit."

The west side of The Naylor Building has been landscaped with sod and the addition of a number of fairly large trees; and after several days of delays, the paving of the road past the building has also been completed. "Memories of Gray," the statue of the horse and student, has been moved to the base of the stairs leading to the Rosenberg Campus Green. To view this area, use the live web camera that has been operational during the entire project.

Meanwhile, work on The Edward St. John Student Center continues. Construction on this building started two months after The Naylor Building and, because it has two dining halls, is a much more complex project. We are pleased to report that despite many rainy days this summer, the Student Center is on schedule to be operational in January or February of 2014. The exterior stone work on the facade of the south side of the building is complete, and the curbs and gutters have been installed on the loop road adjacent to the building, but we need drier weather before the base paving can be done. Additionally, the new bus lot, like the loop road, has been delayed by rain. We expect this site to be complete for use by the start of school.

Though work on Field 16, the girls soccer field along Lamborn Road, has been delayed by rain, we anticipate the sod will be laid next week, after which two weeks are required for the grass to set. A new type of Bermuda grass developed for "northern" climates has been selected for this field to provide an improved playing surface.

Finally, the work in the basement of the Lamborn Alumni Memorial Field House has been completed except for the testing of the various heating systems. The locker rooms and bathrooms are now in use by our fall sports teams.
