McDonogh’s Model UN team had a very successful weekend (January 16-19) at the Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition in New York. The annual international affairs conference is known for its original committees, intense crisis simulations, dedicated staff, and focus on introducing its delegates to both Columbia and New York City.
Students spent the weekend discussing and debating various topics on international diplomacy ranging from the historical Soviet Politburo of 1941 on the eve of Hitler's invasion and the Nigerian Biafran Civil War of 1967 to more modern topics including combating crime lords in Rio de Janeiro and issues facing the Cabinet of the President of Mexico in 2013.
Congratulations to the following delegates who won awards for their role in historical simulations: Eric C. '14 - Honorable Mention for "Taking Back Rio de Janeiro: A War Against Organized Crime"; Matt B. '15 - Honorable Mention for "The Soviet Politburo of 1941"; and Omar S. '14 - Best Delegate (the top award given) for "The Nigerian-Biafran Civil War of 1967."
