Dear Members of the McDonogh Community,
It is with mixed emotions that I announce that Steve Nichols, varsity boys’ soccer head coach, has been named head coach of Loyola University’s men’s soccer team. Steve’s departure is certainly our loss, but this position is an incredible opportunity for him, and I fully support his decision. It is an honor for Steve to return to his college alma mater to coach.
We are grateful to Steve for his dedication to McDonogh as a physical education teacher and coach for the past 20 years. During his career, Steve led the Eagles to seven MIAA-A Conference crowns (1998, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2011, and 2013), and he coached seven Baltimore Sun Soccer Players of the Year and one National Player of the Year. Additionally, Steve was named The Baltimore Sun Coach of the Year two times and National High School Coach of the Year in 2013. Amassing a stellar record of 336 wins, 79 losses, and 28 ties, Steve finishes his McDonogh career with a 76% win ratio.
Please join me in thanking Steve for his outstanding service and wishing him the very best in his new position. I am confident that the Greyhounds will benefit from Steve’s winning spirit, dedication to excellence, and commitment to upholding traditions.
Along with Athletic Directors Mickey Deegan and Matt MacMullan, I am pleased to announce that Brandon Quaranta, who has been the varsity boys’ assistant soccer coach for the past eight seasons, will take over as head coach. Brandon has many years of coaching experience. He is co-director of the Baltimore Celtics club soccer team and former coach of the Baltimore Bays (12-15-year-olds). In 2010, his team was declared National Champions.
In addition to working with the varsity soccer team, Brandon has coached McDonogh’s Middle School basketball and tennis teams, and for the past 2 ½ years, he has taught physical education classes in grades 1, 2, 4 and 6. We are extremely confident in Brandon’s ability to carry on the legacy of McDonogh boys’ soccer and lead the Eagles to victory.
Sincerely,
Charles W. Britton
