McDonogh Family Invited to Join Virtual Choir

One of John McDonogh's greatest wishes was for music to be a part of each student’s life. In this time of isolation, Middle School Vocal Music Teacher Suzi Eldridge and members of the Performing Arts faculty are inviting alumni, current and former faculty/staff, students in the McDonogh Singers, and members of the Concert Choir to join McDonogh's Virtual Choir and record themselves singing the Founder’s Day song.

Eldridge says, “The idea is modeled after Eric Whitacre's virtual choir. It is a wonderful way to bring our greater McDonogh Family together and to spread a little joy.”

McDonogh’s Virtual Choir will be conducted by Philip Olsen, Upper School Head of the Choral Music Department and the performance will be compiled by Ryan Sevel '14. This folder contains everything you need to know to join McDonogh’s Virtual Choir and to make your recording of the Founder's Day song. To be part of this exciting project, simply follow the steps below and submit your recording by Friday, April 10.

  1. Learn your part in the Founder's Day song with the rehearsal recordings provided.
  2. When ready, follow the "Best Practices" document to optimize your recording.
  3. Play the recording of Philip Olsen conducting, using headphones, while you sing and record yourself so you are singing in the same tempo as everyone else.
  4. Label the file with your voice part, first name, last name, city, and state.
  5. Place the recording in the submitted recordings folder in the subsection for your voice part.

We look forward to hearing you!
