Donating appreciated securities may provide an enormous benefit to both you and McDonogh. Upon transfer, you can claim a charitable tax deduction for the full, fair market value of the securities and pay no capital gains tax. Your gift will produce a deduction far greater than the “cost” you initially paid for the security.
Individual retirement arrangement (IRA) owners age 70½ or over can transfer up to $100,000 to charity tax-free each year. These transfers, known as qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), offer a great way to easily give to charity. And for those who are at least 73 years old, QCDs count toward the IRA owner's required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
Planned gifts and bequests allow you to support McDonogh’s mission while receiving financial and tax benefits. Giving options range from naming McDonogh as a beneficiary in your will to more complex trust arrangements. Please contact Beth Hopkins at bhopkins@mcdonogh.org for more information.
