Little Hands, Big Harvest: A Pumpkin Picking Adventure

Kindergartners headed back to Roots Farm, McDonogh's vibrant 10-acre outdoor classroom, to harvest sugar pumpkins that sprouted from seeds they carefully planted at the start of summer. After learning from Farmer Hood that smaller pumpkins are best for cooking, each student handpicked one to take home and another for baking pumpkin muffins in the Roots Culinary Kitchen. They look forward to sharing their farming journey and delicious treats with loved ones on Grandparents and Grandfriends Day in November!

This annual tradition marks a meaningful first step in the valuable farm-to-fork lessons McDonogh students learn at Roots. By following the entire life cycle of plants, our young learners deepen their understanding of food sources and the journey from the soil to their plates.
