"Animal Farm" Tonight!
The show stars Glen R. '03 as Napoleon, Anne F. '04 as Snowball, Abby A-O '03 as Squealer, and Eric D. '05 as Boxer ... and many other familiar faces--Alex Mc. '04, Drew F. '04, Jeff T. '04, and Jenn W. '04.
As the cover jacket explains, "The play never lets us forget the book. The creatures of Orwell's imagination appear and, with the help of Richard Peaslee's music and Adrian Mitchell's lyrics, they play out Orwell's fable of a revolution betrayed. The music--particularly the folk/rock numbers--grows stronger, the sufferings of the animals grow more poignant. The high-minded commandments laid down by the Old Major are all subverted and obliterated from history. We know, of course, the one altered commandment that will remain--and when it shows up chalked on the side of a barn door, our expectations make it all the more chilling: 'all animals are treated equal but some are more equal than others.'... A tribute to the enduring power of a noble work."
