Author Visits Fourth Graders
She spoke in a hushed tone because of laryngitis, but that didn't stop Elisa Carbone, a famous children's author, from visiting McDonogh School on April 20. With the aid of a microphone and an attentive audience of fourth graders, Ms. Carbone led an interactive discussion about the importance of research in writing both historical and contemporary fiction. She shared stories about digging up valuable information for two of her books, Storm Warriors and Stealing Freedom, which the students had read in class. Her slideshow and accompanying stories illustrated the research process involved in writing. After a question and answer session, the students took turns having Ms. Carbone sign copies of her books.
