Several hundred McDonogh graduates returned to campus on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 to celebrate five-year milestone reunions. Guests traveled from Australia, Taiwan, Costa Rica, Britain, the Bahamas, Spain, and all parts of the U.S. to be with classmates. Special honorees included members of the 50th reunion class, 1956.
For all, the Saturday afternoon crab feast in Lamborn Hall was a big draw. So too were the sunny, comfortable days, which showcased the full spring splendor of campus.
Friday’s festivities allowed alumni guests and their families to meet their third- and fourth-grade pen pals, visit classes, reunite with teachers, watch varsity athletics, play tennis, enjoy an early evening cocktail party, and see the student musical “Company.”
Guests returned on Saturday to savor Maryland’s favorite seafood in the company of old friends. Some intrepid lacrosse alumni took on the varsity team in the morning. On a nearby field, alumnae of the softball program challenged current players.
Others convened in Tagart Memorial Chapel for the Alumni Memorial Service, a posthumous tribute to recently deceased alumni. Director of Religious Studies John Grega presided. Members of the 50th reunion class recited the readings, and Bob Slingluff ’56 offered a moving reflection. Immediately following, Headmaster Bo Dixon delivered his annual state-of-the-school address.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, individual classes gathered to celebrate in friends’ homes and at other venues across town. The pictures in the accompanying photo essay say it all.
