Great Teamwork Powers Eagle Volleyball

Following a difficult loss to then 9th-ranked Dulaney (now ranked 4th), the Eagles defeated division rival Beth T'filoh and went on to upset the 8th-ranked Owings Mills team in a hard-fought, five-game match that lasted close to three hours. The Eagles are 5-0 in their division, defeating both Beth T'filoh (3-0, & 3-1) and St. John's (3-0 & 3-1) twice, and Mount De Sales (3-1). They are 5-1 in the IAAM A Conference, losing only to the well-skilled, well-coached team from Chapelgate.

Seniors Liz E., Arielle S., and Dominique M. have stepped it up this season to contribute greatly to the team's success. Liz has become the go-to power hitter, and Dominique M. has contributed consistent play in every aspect of the game, including leading the team in serving with 94% accuracy.

Several underclassmen have also been key to the Eagles victories. Nadine S. has stepped in to replace last year's all star, Mariah Daly, adding consistent passing and digging, improved hitting, and great blocking. Sophomore Tiffany G. and junior Dominique D. are developing into effective defensive specialists, combining for 35 aces and 96 digs.

Running the offense and leading the team in kills with 76 and 151 assists is Jessy M., last year's Eagle Award co-winner and IAAM All Star. Jessy has also contributed 31 blocks, 53 digs, and 21 aces. Amy L. (Eagle Award co-winner '01 and IAAM All Star) and Trina S. are the keys to the Eagles offense with their quick-hitting attack, combining for 83 kills to date, and leading the defense with their great middle-blocking, combining for 110 blocks.

Leading the team in attack are: Jessy M. with 76 kills, and Nadine S., Amy L. & Trina S. with over 40 kills each. Amy L. & Arielle S. lead the team in serving percentage averaging 90 % & 89% respectively.

The Eagles face division rival Archbishop Spalding and conference rival Mercy later this week in their continuing effort to make to the IAAM A Conference championships for the sixth consecutive year.
