Hooray for Pi Day
Nina Damashek’s math classes celebrated Pi Day on March 14 by measuring the circumference and diameter of round things and then dividing the former by the latter to get an approximation for pi. Next, the group used a printout of pi to start a paper chain, giving each digit a color. Reports Nina, "Here are my third graders holding the chain, which goes around my room twice, and of course would continue forever . . . but we do have some other work to do!"
