Following in the McDonogh tradition, the 143 members of the Class of 2007 officially became upperclassmen at the Junior Pin Ceremony on Wednesday, September 28.
First, they gathered in Lamborn Hall for the Junior Pin Dinner. The students were welcomed to a pleasant table setting and teachers eager to serve them. After a brief blessing and opening remarks from Mr. John Grega, classmates enjoyed a pasta dinner and strawberry shortcake.
Proceeding alphabetically to the Ceres M. Horn Theater, the juniors were greeted by the smiling faces of their family and friends. During the ceremony, science teacher Bob Mahon delivered a moving message to the class, charging them to have “the vision” and stand for a cause throughout their lives.
Class members then walked across the stage one by one to accept their gold McDonogh lapel pins from Headmaster Bo Dixon. Dixon concluded the ceremony by reflecting on the significance of the actual walk. He made the point that it is important to cherish the moments that you are recognized for achievements, because they do not come often.
