On September 30, the Board of Trustees named Marc P. Blum '60 (pictured at left with Charles O. Monk, Board of Trustees President) as a John McDonogh Fellow "for the love and support that he has so generously provided." The designation recognizes McDonogh's most generous benefactors. Only 10 others have received the honor.
As a benefactor, Blum has made major gifts to support endowed teaching chairs and the scholarship program. In recent years, he donated four new campus houses for faculty in honor of his favorite teachers: Mary and Q.D. Thompson, Paul Carre, Charles Kinard, and Marion Sparks. Blum has also put McDonogh in his estate plans.
A generous volunteer as well as donor, Blum served on the board of trustees from 1990 to 2005, the last four of those years as its president. During that time, he chaired major board committees on strategic planning, investments, trustee nominations, finance, and governance. In honor of the school’s 125th anniversary, he wrote a book entitled, John McDonogh, the Founding of McDonogh School, and the Early Leaders.
Blum is currently CEO of the World Total Return Fund and is affiliated with the law firm of Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander. He and his wife Leonor are the parents of two sons, Alex and Ari ’91.
In addition to Blum, McDonogh Fellows include Clarence Burck '28, Joe Keelty '40, Kay and Kemp Lehmann '48, Sarah Lain (mother of Tim Nicolai '87), Pannill Martin 1900, Irv Naylor '54, John Nicolai '54 Beale Rollins '15, and May Rollins.
