McDonogh Receives National Guard Award

McDonogh was nominated for the award by McDonogh bus driver Zack P. Lindsey, Jr., of the Army Reserve National Guard and a McDonogh bus driver and member of the maintenance staff. Called to active duty one week after joining up in September 2001, Staff Sergeant Lindsey wrote of all the support he received from McDonogh's administration. "They said that they let me go with great pride and told me that the faculty and students were behind me and would be waiting for me when I finished serving my country."

Col. Danmyer explained that it is rare to hear of employers extending such support and said he was pleased to recognize McDonogh publicly. Sixty-five percent of American forces are currently comprised of the National Guard and Reserve. Sergeant Lindsey is currently serving in an artillery unit.
