"Where is my oldest, oldest famous person?" inquires sixth-grade teacher Jeanne Mulligan. Ramses the Great comes to his feet in the Krauss Memorial Library as another voice bellows, "Come on down!" As Ramses the Great passes the table of doughnut holes and juice to take his place in the timeline, Mrs. Mulligan explains that this year she has had to extend her timeline by a thousand years to accomodate him. Another year, another fascinating "Mingle and Munch."
Mingle and Munch allows sixth-graders to become the famous people that they research extensively for two months in reading, social studies, science, and English classes. Each completes a written report in preparation for this challenging but enjoyable activity.
Dressed as their subjects, students remain in character for more than an hour conversing with their fellows and entertaining the faculty and parents whose numbers grow larger each year. This year's group included marine biologist Sylvia Earle and boxer Mohammed Ali, both Queen Elizabeths of England, astronaut Sally Ride, comedian Bill Cosby, tennis player Arthur Ashe, and inventor Leonardo Da Vinci.
