Mingle and Munch Brings Famous People to Middle School

Mingle and Munch allowed sixth-graders to become the famous people that they had researched extensively since November in reading, social studies, science, and English classes. Each completed a written report in preparation for this challenging but enjoyable activity.

Dressed as their subjects, students remained in character for more than an hour. Their fascinating conversations ran the gamut. Mary McLeod Bethune told of starting a school in her basement, while Emily Dickinson reported having written 1,377 poems. Leonardo DaVinci named the underwater diving suit as one of his inventions, and Captain Cook revealed details of his death on Hawaii.

When Mingle and Munch was over, students agreed that they had learned a lot. When asked to share some of their new knowledge, they reeled off fact after fact about the characters with whom they had spoken.
