Moon Bears Move to Dudley Hall

Last Friday, with all the lower schoolers cheering them on from the blacktop, the Moon Bears paraded from their temporary digs in the Kelly Center to their new room in Dudley Hall. The kindergartners stopped just long enough to cut the ceremonial ribbon before rushing inside.

They found their cubbies immediately and looked around in wonder at the bright, colorful space. They spied all their books, their blocks, and their toys. They went over to the board and found their name tags. Furniture was in place thanks to the varsity football team, whose members moved the large pieces after school on Wednesday.

Their teacher, Posey Valis, then gathered the Moon Bears together to thank Steve Simmers, the school’s facilities manager, who oversaw construction and contributed his own craftsmanship. The students presented him with a handmade card in the shape of a saw.

The 1,450-sq. ft. room was added to the kindergarten building over the summer to accommodate a fourth section, the school’s solution to a record number of kindergarten applicants for 2005-2006. The addition also contains restrooms in the lower level for those using the nearby athletic field.
