Middle schoolers will see some immediate changes when they arrive in Finney Building this fall. The physical makeover includes a light, bright lobby and first-floor hallway and new facilities downstairs. "While our projects may not have been on quite the same scale as the beautiful new Lower School addition, they will have a considerable impact on our quality of life," Head of Middle School Rob Gustavson wrote to parents.
Also new is the HomeAccess requirement, whereby all middle schoolers are to have a computer and Internet access at home. No more "dog ate my homework" excuses, because students can retrieve their homework at school and their schoolwork at home -- all on computer.
Finally, though Middle School has always promoted ethical conduct, the standards have become more formal now. A new Middle School Honor Code makes the values clear: tell the truth, present one's own original work, and obtain permission before possessing another's property.
