Pin Ceremony Signifies Passage for Juniors

On the evening of October 15, members of the Class of 2003, along with their families, gathered in Tagart Memorial Chapel for the Junior Pin Ceremony. This McDonogh tradition celebrates the students' progression from underclassmen to upperclassmen. Headmaster Bo Dixon and Head of the Upper School Ceil Millar presented each member of the class with a McDonogh pin. The hourlong ceremony also included musical interludes by gifted class members.

class of 2003, October 15, 2001The evening began in Lamborn Hall with faculty members serving dinner to the class. Students then made their way to the chapel in a candlelit procession.

Chemistry teacher Lee Shang was the juniors' chosen speaker. He described the Junior Pin Ceremony as a rite of passage signaling the growth and maturity of the class. He also told them that they were becoming the leaders at McDonogh and that it would soon be up to them to guide the Upper School.

Following the presentation of the pins to the students, Headmaster Bo Dixon reminded the audience that even though our world has changed, some things don’t change. He urged everyone to cherish traditions, friends, and family, and the important things that events such as the Pin Ceremony signify.
